We are now rolling out Ford Power-Up 4 and 5 software updates to our customers in Europe. Details of these can be found later in this post.
Please read this first
To ensure a smooth delivery of these updates we strongly recommend:
The following is also very important to ensure undisrupted delivery:
We deploy updates, when they become available, in batches across a period of time. The vehicles selected for each batch will be chosen at random, so please don’t worry if you see someone online receive an update before you do, we haven’t forgotten you! It may take a few weeks for your updates to start arriving and there may also be a few weeks or more between each update. Your car will need to be driven regularly in order to receive all of the updates, if you are away on your holidays or business without your car it’ll be alright and the updates will resume once you are back home and on the road again.
With the many factors involved in deploying software updates to a vehicle, in a small number of cases, it may take more than one attempt to successfully deploy an update. If you do happen to receive an unsuccessful update please don’t panic, we will manage these situations remotely and ensure re-deployment happens, you won’t need to do anything.
Ford Power-Up Software Update 4 & 5 Summary
Please note: Different vehicles and different model years may receive different updates due to different SYNC 4 systems and different vehicle content.
Many updates are background updates. You will not notice any difference in your vehicle following these particular updates. These are essential to the continued smooth running of your vehicle’s connectivity, over-the-air functionality, and digital products and services such as FordPass. They must all be installed in order to receive any subsequent updates and new features.

Ford Power-Up 4.2.2.1
Ford Power-Up 4.2.2.1 brings several significant updates to SYNC:
Please note: As this is a major update to SYNC, you may find a small number of settings reverting to default. These may include your drive modes and automatic folding mirrors. I would recommend that after this update, you check that these settings are as you require them.

Hi, I have the same problem, update 4.2.4 arrived since December my sync freezes the map as long as it's in the background, I have tried to report the problem to Ford customer service... He told me they can't do a ticket, told me to go a Ford service (Ford customer service in Spain)
I tried master reset sync it's a little better but still the problem

I love my Focus, but hate Sync 4, but hating Sync 4 is causing me now to not want another Ford or the car.
its absolutely appalling of Ford and especially just allowing it to be realised in each country with issues.
the only suggestion now I can say, for those who live in the U.K. is
1) Write and lodge a complaint with Ford U.K.
2) Write and copy in Ford CEO Lisa Brankin
3) Write of to the Media, Car magazines are good at promoting cars, why not let them help Ford Fix Sync 4.
4) Write to watchdog on BBC 1.
For those that live outside U.K, still lodge a fault but with Ford Europe, Dealers and local media
I've truly lost all hope in Ford wanting to fix the Focus as the seem zero interested in the car, there killing of.
problem is, there also killing of there loyal Ford customers and the silence from Sync in wanting to fix it, is much worse.
As we all know, Ford will ask you to take it to a Garage, garage will throw parts at it, but it doesn’t take a scientist to work out,
4.2.1 we didn’t have a fault
Ford Sync team realised software 4.2.2 and oh look, Sync becomes faulty.
Garage have no new versions, so placing 4.2.2 or 4.2.4 over it self has zero fix.
Modern Technology should make cars better, Sync 4.2.2 has made it worse and yes dangerous as now maps freeze, sound is garbelled, calls dropped, speed sign awareness freezes when maps freeze, so you have to override the system.
yes i can use Apple Maps or Google maps and i now use Car play all the time
But what is the point in me spending money on the Ford features if I can no longer use them.
dropping calls of Sync should not be happening in 2024.
I'm utterly lost and angry at Ford and not wanting my car for the wrong reason.
But the acknowledgment, especially as there are more and more complaints coming in and it’s not just on this forum, it’s others, is the worse part.
PR disaster . A simple, we’re working on fixing this or looking at this would be a simple thing to do.

I read on the German + UK forum that the change of APIM of Sync4 solves this issue
APIM Alt (defective):
Sync: 4.0 23159/915
SW: 1.76.53
Nav: 1.384.53
APIM New:
Sync: 4.0 23191/946
SW: 1.80.51
Nav: 1.415.51

How do you know what module is installed in the car?
I have just had mine replaced, but I don't know what with.

I have my car scheduled to be checked in 2 weeks, so I don't know, maybe only the APIM was replaced and that was it...I asked the german guys and they said only the APIM was replaced.
