Mach-e. The USA version has a button in FordPass to open the bonnet (Frunk). The U.K. version doesn’t and it is something to do with PAAK which is available in the USA but is not available in the U.K. due to security/insurance rules. I don’t need PAAK, but it would be nice to be able to open the bonnet using the FordPass App. Parking at my daughters house the driveway is pretty narrow so you have to park with the passenger door close to the fence in order to leave enough room to get out of the door. To open the bonnet in this instance becomes impossible because you have to open the passenger door to fully pull on the bonnet release lever.

Hi JasIII, thanks for the great info. Just tried it and unfortunately it doesn’t work on my car. Just had the dealer installed update (power-up) done for 22-PU0706-SCH-POPA, so maybe I need a further OTA update for it to work. I’ve just read on:-

https://www.reddit.com/r/MachE/comments/w01f3w/til_entering_the_door_code_twice_opens_the_frunk/

‘If you have the powered frunk I believe. This doesn't work on job 1 2021 cars’

My car was first registered Nov 2021, so probably built mid 2021 (I’ll check) What is a powered Frunk? I pull the level twice on the NS inside door post to open the Frunk. Alternatively (if 12V battery is flat or will if work if 12V is ok?) I can connect a 12V battery to the leads behind the removable panel on the front OS panel, and if trapped inside (a child for example) can press the electrical button on the inside of the frunk.

I’ve looked at remote switches (via Phone App) and I found one with a level, which could be placed (glued) next to the electrical button and when activated the level would press the button and hey presto the Frunk opens 🤞😬….might give it a go 🤔

That's not correct. My car was registered in June 21, and since a visit to my dealer a few months ago I can now open my frunk using the fob or the keypad. But the frunk button is not available in the app.

Also I don't think the emergency button works without the update. I actually tested it using a Fingerbot before I got the update, but nothing happened when it pushed the button.

I'm in Norway. I'm aware it's a UK forum, but I think we are in the same boat. I'm stuck on 2.x.

Hei veldig bra!

Yes almost same boat, but in UK and NIRE we have a different key and (RHD).   (Only 3 buttons and no PAAK bluetooth connectivity.

It’s for the Thatcham Rating for Insurance here.  Our key is used on other Ford UK models like Fiesta, etc. It falls asleep after 2min of inactivity (no movement) so no RF transmission to car, so it cannot be easily cloned. But because of this it’s Ford’s UK excuse for delaying software updates.

So Norway 🇳🇴

Its so impressive how Norway supports EV’s from an economy built mostly on Oil & Gas. The Mach-e has been a strong seller there I understand. I loved driving mine UK to Norway (980 miles) last August driving through NL, DE & DK.  My wife is from Jorpeland!  Such a difference in EV charging  availability & infrastructure on the road  But also lot’s of ferries, and issues with  the Mach-e alarm getting triggered, completely overlooked by Ford landlocked engineers design team! So on long  Ferries like Hirtshals to Stavanger. A driver could return to car deck & likely to find a dead 12volt and vehicle, that could not be easily opened or jumped& blocking other cars. So only option for me is unlock car remotely after ferry ️ starts & deck is secure. Then relocking on docking into port using the App. However after a year of  cases being raised it seems Ford might finally be sorting that by OTA, but won’t hold my breath, just like waiting for any OTA or  accurate official technical information updates. 🙄.

…It’s a 🤡 !

Hi @JasIII , nice post. On the subject of the ‘alarm going off on the ferry problem’ (love your comment referring to ‘Ford landlocked engineers’ 👍), having done 8 x 6 hrs ferry trips (Portsmouth to Caen return) with the alarm going off at least 5 times per trip, I’ve never had a problem with the 12V battery charge level and being able to open the drivers door and start the car.  First trip I took a motorbike 12V battery with me on the ferry to be able to open the Frunk (bonnet) via the leads behind the cover on the front of the car + plastic levels to lift the panels under the bonnet to gain access to the 12V battery. According to page 306 of the Owners manual, the 12V battery is kept charged by the drive batteries, I am assuming this applies to all Mach-e models. Please see the below extract :-

Hi Mike

Cheers Mike,

Sorry seems your extract was blocked.

My ferry trip from Hirstshall Dk to Stavanger, NO, is about 12 hrs.  Can be rough at times.  Yes I’ve heard that the HV battery can charge the Lv 12dc.

I’ve got the the 50mm plastic caps from ebay to put over the 12dc battery terminals after drilling holes in the cover over them. Saves pulling all the covers or breaking those plastic pins.

I was thinking of you yesterday when I double checked again and entering the OEM unlock code in the keypad, the 7-8 bang frunk fully pops. It sure makes opening it easier, essentially if I can’t get to the 2x passenger lever.

Try again be sure it opens the locked door.  Then enter it again immediately press 7-8 together, it should pop your f ’n Frunk!

If not have someone like Mike in the Mach-e forum or Tony (Wonky-Donkey) send em your VIN, you might be missing a Module Update. I had to get my IPC module updated at the dealer (build 1) thats why I was getting EV Data in the FP App.

BTW: Have you gotten the 3.5.2.1 OTA yet????  So many have! Not me!

WTF. This is such a ‘💩show’ !

You know there are (345) Mach-E’s on Autotrader now, and 150 on eBay! Price has really tanked!

Ford UK just needs to have a good look in the mirror. 🤡! But unfortunately their joke is on us!  So many voting with their feet!

I really have tried & make a fuss trying to get answers & stuff sorted, … but just end banging my head on the wall. Now I got a warning msg to stop or being banned on this forum.

Cheers

-James!
