Tesla Integration

davesibbitt

Seeing lots of posts from American owners on Facebook about getting their Tesla Adaptors (to enable use on ALL the Tesla Supercharger network rather than the limited few with CCS).

Any chance the UK Ford IT Crowd could update us on whether or when we can expect it on this side of the pond?

@davesibbitt

In the uk all Tesla model 3 and Y are CCS.

most if not all superchargers in the uk have CCS plugs the other plug on some superchargers in the uk is what the model S and X use is type 2 that is unique to Tesla.

in the USA Tesla use a different plug to everyone else on all their cars.
the USA plug standard on all bar Tesla is type 1 with CCS at the bottom.

all superchargers in the uk and Europe that are open to all can be used by any CCS equipped cars it’s up to Tesla which ones they open up to all as there is no need for an adapter all that’s needed on Tesla’s side is to eliminate the software lock on the supercharger to allow other cars, as a Tesla all you need to do is plug in and charge as your charged via your Tesla account which the car is linked too where any other car you need to pay via the Tesla app or on V4 superchargers there is a contactless payment pad on the supercharger itself.

The list is getting bigger all the time and most new superchargers that are installed are V4 and they do seem to be open to all.

there is no agreement with any manufacturers in the uk or Europe that is unique to the USA supercharger as they are completely different and can’t be compared

Thanks for that.

So it seems that the only issue is that in the USA - Ford and Tesla are integrating to allow ALL Superchargers to be used and in the UK, there is no sign of it happening as yet!

😕

@davesibbitt

Even though they are Tesla superchargers the USA one are completely different to the uk and Europe ones.
in the uk and Europe we had open to all long before the USA.

if you go to the USA Tesla site you will see they have three different types of superchargers Tesla only, magic dock ones open to all and NACS ones.

only certain ones are usable to non Tesla cars like here in the uk but in the uk there is no need for any integration at all due the the same charging standards that we have.

in the uk and Europe as you can use any superchargers that are open to all they have the correct type CCS plug that is the  recognised type in the uk and Europe there is NO need for vehicle software or an adapter or integration at all any ccs equipped car can use open to all superchargers unlike the USA where it’s currently only Ford and Rivian for the NACS superchargers.

the superchargers in the uk and Europe are locked via Tesla software to Tesla cars it’s Tesla that decides which ones to open to all and the list is getting longer.

I don't know the details in the UK, but I'm pretty sure Tesla gets to decide which stations they want to open up to non-Teslas. It's not Ford's decision. You should be complaining to Tesla UK or possibility your government about requiring open charger access.

Not all the Tesla stations are open Fords in the USA either. Only select ones. Again, Tesla gets to decide which ones they want to open up. Ford is at their mercy.

Don’t think there’s any need to ‘complain’ to anyone.

As a deal with Tesla has been done and announced by Ford’s CEO, I would have hoped the UK Ford team would be best placed to find out and advise whether there is any prospect of it also coming to Europe (presumably while maintaining the CCS system).
