Remote windscreen

On manual ICE cars such as my 2019 focus . I understand not being able to do remote start to preheat the car but why not add a feature to turn on the electric heated windscreen and the electric heated seats to clear the ice and heat the car a little from the app?

unfortunately I don’t think this could be done on a ice car unless the engine was running they both take quite a bit of power and would drain the 12v battery and especially as you would only use this when it’s very cold it could stop you from starting the car.

 

on the Mach e it certainly does what your looking for I’m not sure if it does it on the kuga plug in but it would certainly be possible on it due to having the ev battery.

 

it’s definitely a great feature to have and hopefully they can add remote start to manual cars, it’s certainly possible as most now know if their are in gear or not

@Samwc11   Yes it’s one of the best features of an EV. 

But saying that the quick clear windscreen does take a lot of the effort of de-icing a car and is pretty quick it’s one of fords best features

Hi all - I share your desire for this! there are considerations of a number of factors here. Firstly as @chris200100 suggests battery drain is certainly one of them. The other considerations are local legislations / recommended advice around the need to place your vehicle in gear, or reverse (on a hill) to add engine braking as an additional safety back-up. I personally think this advice needs to catch-up to latest technologies. 

 

The last factor would be hardware capabilities such as sensors needed to ensure bonnet is shut, vehicle is is neutral etc. which do not always exist in manual ICE vehicles. 

 

With all of this being said it doesn't mean that we should internally stop investigating options so have moved the idea to this status.

In the rainy climates this would be great.  Also when charging in the snow it would be great.  
I had a long drive in very wet snow and when fast charging I really wanted this option.  It also seems that being able to turn all the climate on from the app and see status when charging would help have the vehicle ready to go.
