When you finish your journey and ignition off, it would be nice for the car to auto apply the EPB. It puts it into park automatically, so I can't see why the handbrake can be done as well?

All of my previous cars that had an EPB had this feature, including our other current EV which is a Hyundai Ionic.

From what I am aware, the vehicle does automatically apply the parking brake (Not just the service brake) when the vehicle is placed into park. Then automatically released when shifted into Drive. Because this is automatic, you will not see the "BRAKE" indicator on your IPC, but it is being done in the background. Generally you can hear it apply after shifting into park. If I remember correctly, this was the behavior in the PowerUp 3 Series.

I don’t think my Focus ST automatic does though.

If I set it to park and release the brake pedal my car wobbles a bit.

Then when I apply the parking brake I can hear it go on.

Mine does not release automatically either, which I thought all

automarics did when throttle is pressed in drive. Just noticed this

today. But I’ll have to test this again to be sure. Maybe I didn’t press

the pedal enough for it to release.

For me both these function sound like a good improvement.

EDIT: My car atleast lets go of the brakes when pressing the throttle.

But no, it doesn’t set the park brake automatically. I can’t hear it do

so anyway. There’s a clear sound when I do i manually.

AlanJohnsrud I'm not sure if we are talking about 2 different things. My suggestion is for the service brake to be applied when ignitioning off, not the park function, which does engage automatically.

If you're suggesting that the service brake is being applied but the telltale is not showing this is not true. I worked in the automotive industry for over 10 years, including systems integration where I had to check all dash warning lights operated correctly, and the service brake indicator is a red status indicator, therefore it is a major safety indicator. To put the service brake on and not show the indicator is not allowed and is a severe safety breach that would have to be rectified and if all vehicles did this it would require a safety recall.

Regarding the park function on the gear selector; on a typical automatic, shifting into park throws a locking pawl in the gearbox. On this car, and other BEV's, it locks the drivetrain but doesn't engage the EPB. I've tested this and if you just let the Mach-e engage park on its own, you hear the pawl engage automatically and if let your foot off the brake the car 'rocks' on the pawl. The caveat on the Mach-e is that it will apply the park brake as well, but only if you are on a significant slope. Maybe this is why you heard the EPB engage? In this case, it should also show the park brake indicator.

I know this is an old topic, but it sure would be nice if in the Lightning when you put the truck into Park, that the Parking Brake would also engage.  If you press the P on the screen when in reverse you can enable this (and it works most of the time).  But it should always put the parking brake on when the car goes into Park.  It will automatically switch off when you press on the accelerator so I see no reason why you wouldn't want it to always come on.  And with the fact that without the Parking Brake, the truck will roll some, it can be annoying, especially when we have to get so close to a Tesla Supercharger for the cable to reach.
